Shockwave is used to simulate healing chronic tendon injuries or tendinosis by recruiting new blood flow and cells to the site. In a chronic condition, the body has a limited capacity to heal degeneration. By recruiting this new blood flow and cells to the site, it may convert this chronic picture to a more acute situation allowing the body to provide healing. The procedure takes approximately 15 minutes and anesthesia is not required. Crutches or a boot are not required. It is recommended that the patient slightly modify or decrease activities while undergoing this treatment. Since there is no anesthesia, the patient may come and go without anyone picking them up after the procedure. A total of four sessions, usually separated by one week, is generally recommended.
